The 2016 Napa Valley Reserve 'The Riley' instantly opens to aromas of ripe red currants, red plums and cassis, which are beautifully woven together with spices and dried savory herbs all coming together and emerging from the glass. On the palate this is medium-bodied, with a lovely round, well polished texture that is quite appealing. Flavors of ripe red plums, spices and a touch of iron all come together, and leave a lasting impression on the finish. While this doesn't quite have the depth and concentration as the other Reserve wines from Frank Family in this vintage, it is a lovely showing nonetheless, and should continue to evolve nicely over the course of the next decade.
