This majestic 100% Malbec is sourced from the Rockpile Ridge Vineyard, which is located in the Rockpile AVA in Northern Sonoma County. The vineyard is situated at an elevation of 1,100 feet, with rows that slop at an angle of 25-degrees and face the Sonoma basin, allowing the vines to benefit from coastal breezes. The gravelly loam soils are are well-drained and dry-farmed to further increase the stress on the vines. The result is a massive, upfront and forward style, that displays incredible power and concentration. It bursts open with profound aromas of ripe blueberries, crème de cassis and raspberry preserves, which are joined together with crushed violets, spices, espresso and an underlying loamy character. This is full-bodied, intense, and layered, with a remarkable dense core that is deeply saturated with ripe black and blue fruit flavors laced with notes of violets and earth. It goes on to glide seamlessly across that palate as it works its way up to the big supple finish that leaves behind a generous mouthful of delicious ripe fruit flavors lingering on and on. Overall, this is a total blockbuster Malbec from Jesse Katz that is nothing short of delicious today, yet it should also continue to offer over a decade of hedonistic pleasure.
