GRAMERCY CELLARS Syrah, Columbia Valley 'John Lewis Reserve' 2016

The 2016 'John Lewis Reserve' Syrah from Gramercy Cellars is another scintillating effort from the talented winemaking team of Brandon Moss and Greg Harrington, MS. Entirely sourced from the Les Collins Vineyard, this wine underwent 100% whole cluster fermentation. This initially comes off a bit reserved and needing some air contact to fully evolve, however once aroused it slowly unveils fantastic aromas of exotic spices that collide with the fresh herbs, black fruits and dusty minerals that all settle in the glass. The palate evokes a wonderful feeling of elegance, as this shows off brilliant sagebrush, blood orange peel, cigar ash, pomegranate seed and shades of huckleberry that give this serious range and an exotic edge. This is beautifully balanced and underlined by a nice beam of salinity which runs through this wine, as the mouth-watering acidity lift through the finish. Overall, this is a sensational Syrah that shows remarkable aging potential and should go on to evolve marvelously over the next decade and beyond.
