The 2016 Chappellet Napa Valley Merlot was aged for 22-months in French oak barrels and the final blend is comprised of 77% Merlot, 10% Malbec, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Malbec, and 5% Petit Verdot. It begins with lovely chocolate covered kirsch aromas that mingle with the sandalwood and earthy undertones which all take shape and emerge from the glass. The palate shows lovely viscosity, as rich layers are laced with flavors of roasted fig, red cherry compote, chocolate covered loganberries and light tobacco leaf flavors. Burly and decadent, this Merlot should have a wonderful future ahead of it.
