The 'Lousas' Parcela Camiño Novo is composed of predominately Mencía with a touch of Garnacha Tintorera, which was sourced from a south facing cooler site in the Amandi subzone of Ribeira Sacra that contains 70-year-old vines planted to slate and granite soils. The 2017 is simply stunning, as it opens to vivid aromatics of dark wild berries, fresh wild flowers, pepper, spices and a gorgeous mineral character that all takes shape as this unwinds in the glass. On the palate this is medium-bodied with a wonderful velvety texture which is backed by a racy core that shows a wonderful combination of balance and focus leading up to the gorgeous finish. This is a brilliant wine from the team at Envínate that continues to become more compelling as it sits in the glass, and while it is already incredibly appealing today, it should go on to evolve beautifully over the course of the next decade.
