The Vieilles Vignes Cuvée is sourced from 60-110+ year old vines of Grenache, Mourvédre, Syrah along as well as smaller percentages of other permitted varieties from four different terroirs which consist of pebbly clay, sand, gravelly red clay and sandy limestone. The 2017 is a spectacular showing from Domain de la Janasse that displays fabulous aromatics of ripe blackberries and dark cherries which are woven together with spices, pepper, lavender, black olives and lovely mineral nuances that all burst from the glass. On the palate this ample red is full-bodied and displays remarkable depth and concentration, with a dense core that possesses layers of ripe dark berries, spices, salted black olive and even some chocolate flavors that make this extremely appealing. While this is nothing short of spectacular today, the Vieilles Vignes should also go on to have a brilliant future ahead.
