The 2017 Château Valandraud is a sexy showing in this vintage which is composed of 90% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. It opens with a burst of inviting aromatics including blackberries, dark currants and blueberries which are woven together with mocha, spices, violets, earth and sweet oak nuances all soaring from the glass. The palate is full and voluptuous, yet it remains poised and in balance. It displays wonderful concentration, as flavors of ripe dark fruits and sweet spices emerge from its core and resonate through the long, opulent finish. While the oak is certainly present, it is well-integrated and quite appealing, as everything works together seamlessly. A sensational effort from Jean-Luc in this challenging vintage.
