The 2017 Château Léoville Poyferré is an absolutely magnificent showing and a highlight from the appellation in this vintage. Composed of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot this opens up to gorgeous aromatics of black and red currants along with tobacco, spices and graphite nuances. On the palate this is medium-bodied and well-structured with notable tension and length on the finish. Overall, this is a beautifully crafted wine, but it will certainly require plenty of time to soften and become accessible. Readers should plan on cellaring this away for at least a few years before approaching.
