The 2015 Howell Mountain 'Reserve' from Ladera is composed of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon with just a dash (4%) Petit Verdot, which spent 22 months in 100% new French oak. It offers wonderful complex aromatics of ripe black cherries, black currants, sweet spices, dried violets, mocha, dusty loam, pencil shavings, earthy minerals and forest herbs that all take shape. On the palate this is full-bodied and well-structured with beautifully polished tannins and outstanding concentration as it goes on to display excellent length with flavors of black fruits, graphite, loam and bittersweet chocolate all leave a lasting impression. While this is already fantastic, it would be best to allow this a few more years of bottle age, as this possesses the characteristics to age gracefully for many years to come.
