The 2015 La Gerla Brunello di Montalcino is sourced from both the Canalicchio and Castelnuovo vineyards. It is aged in large 50-100hl casks and is aged for three years, racked twice a year, then bottled and aged for an additional year before release. As far as the wine itself, it opens to pretty aromatics of plums and raspberries which are woven together with licorice, spices, herbs and hints of leather all taking shape in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a gorgeous round, silky texture and a core that is laced with flavors of sweet dark plums framed by a lovely touch of acidity that provides wonderful freshness. It continues to impress as it shows wonderful finesse and balance all the way through the seamless finish which continues to linger effortlessly. Overall this fantastic Brunello is appealing in its youth, but should also continue to drink beautifully for quite some time.
