The 2017 Cabernet Franc from Chappellet is composed of 72% Cabernet Franc, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Malbec and 2% Petite Verdot which spent 22 months in French oak barrel (60% new). It begins with aromas of black cherries and blueberries which are woven together with violets, smoldering tobacco, herbs and hints of baking spices which all develop in the glass. On the palate this is medium-full bodied and voluptuous, with a lovely seamless transition through the finish. Today the 2017 is dominated by its youthful character, however considering how well Chappellet's Cabernet Franc typically ages, I expect that this will only become more compelling with a few more years in bottle and will continue to evolve over the course of the next decade and beyond.
