The Kistler Vineyard Chardonnay comes from the 40-year-old original Kistler plantings, which are dry farmed vines grown in red volcanic soils sitting in a small bowl at 1800 feet Elevation on the western edge of the Mayacama mountains. The 2017 is absolutely tremendous, as it impresses with its ethereal bouquet, accented by aromas of lemon curd, honeysuckle, tangerine, vanilla blossom, pineapple cake, wet stones and apricot that all burst from the glass. On the palate this possesses a stunning full-bodied, creamy, almost waxy texture, yet it remains beautifully balanced with gorgeous natural acidity that carries this through the long finish. Overall, this is an extremely impressive bottle of Chardonnay and also one of the most unique wines from the Kistler lineup in this vintage. It's drinking beautifully today, but also looks to have wonderful aging potential as well.
