DOMAINE PASCAL COTAT Sancerre, Les Monts Damnés 2018

The 2018 Les Monts Damnés Sancerre from Pascal Cotat is simply gorgeous. Les Monts Damnés is known for its steep slopes and Kimmeridgian chalk soils left from ancient seabeds and this reflects beautifully in the wine. The result is a absolutely stunning Sancerre that slowly unwinds in the glass releasing wonderful aromas of fresh sliced quince, meyer lemon, wildflowers, mint leaf, dried wild herbs and crushed saline infused minerals that all take shape beautifully. On the palate this is pure and precise, with a beautifully textured mouthfeel underlined by bright acidity that provides wonderful energy through the mineral laced finish. The 2018 Les Monts Damnés, does require a lengthy amount air contact before it begins to show its beautiful nuanced character, and I expect it will need need at least a few more years in bottle before it hits its stride. Nonetheless, this is an absolutely striking bottle of Sancerre from Pascal Cotat that will go on to have a brilliant future.
