Nickel and Nickel’s ‘Element 28’ is sourced from a vineyard located high in the hills across from Lake Hennessey which consists of shallow, gravelly loam soils. This is a fantastic showing in this vintage, as it slowly begins to unwind in the glass offering inviting aromas of blueberries, blackberries and plums woven are together with nuances of spices, herbs, hot gravel and hints of vanilla bean. The palate is medium to full-bodied and nicely structured with polished tannins. It goes on to display wonderful concentration with a plush core of red and dark fruits along with a mocha character which is framed beautifully by lovely underlying acidity that provides a wonderful sense of freshness through the long finish. While this is excellent today, it also has the potential to age gracefully for two decades.
