The 2016 San Rocco Barolo from Azelia is a gorgeous showing in this vintage. It opens to seductive aromas and flavors of dark cherries and ripe strawberries followed by tar, floral, sweet spices, licorice, mint and fresh minerals all emerging from the glass. This continues to dazzle with its beautiful polished texture and amazing structure, which is balanced by gorgeous acidity that provides a remarkable sense of freshness all the way to the end. Red fruits and sweet spices continue to explode onto the finish where they turn dry and linger with impressive length. Even at this early stage this is certainly impressive, however it also looks to have serious aging potential as well.
