Coming from the highest portion of the Bien Nacido vineyard, Block 40 has the highest density of vines nearing 10,000 vines per acre, this wine rests 16 months in new French oak barrels with 45% of it being new. This ambitious and delicious Pinot Noir explodes with aromas of red and black cherries, ripe red raspberries, red licorice, hibiscus, black tea and a touch of cigar ash. A balanced core of acid, tannin, body and fruit frame the wine on the palate with flavors of black cherry, cranberry sauce, sweet baking spices, forest floor, hoisin sauce and a touch of white mushroom. A truly Grand Cru wine from the Santa Maria Valley at an impressive price point for this seductive Pinot Noir. Drinkable now, it will be even better in 2-3 years and will age effortlessly for another 15+ years. Highly recommended. Only 117 cases produced.
