The 'El Camino' is the begining of a special reserve program from Dunn, which focuses on old vines and special lots that Randy and Mike Dunn find to be distinctive and superior. 2017 in particular is the last vintage for two old vineyard plots on the Frank parcel that Dunn has leased and managed since 1979. These two lots were aged separately and then combined to make 180 cases of this special limited release. Mike and Randy Dunn have made some of the finest wines in this vintage, but this reserve bottling is on another level. This gorgeous Cabernet impresses with its striking aromatics of ripe blackberries and dark currants, which are accented by graphite shavings, fresh florals, crushed gravel, tobacco and herbs that all come together gracefully in the glass. On the palate this is beautifully defined, polished and impeccably structured, with outstanding overall balance and poise. It goes on to display remarkable depth and dimension, with an expressive core of delicious pure Cabernet fruit that continues to linger through the long, precise finish. The 2017 'El Camino' simply has it all, and it is nothing short of an utterly sensational, flawless wine that is utterly breathtaking today, but is also destined to have a brilliant future ahead.
