The 2018 Zakin Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a sensational wine that shows wonderful restraint and poise. This was sourced from the Zakin’s Howell Mountain block, which is situated at an elevation of 1,450 feet. As far as the wine itself, it evolves beautifully in the glass, releasing aromas of ripe cherries, red currants and hints of bramble berries that combine with fresh cut florals, exotic spices, peppery sage, graphite and crushed stones. On the palate this possesses a vibrant medium to full body that is beautifully tapered and backed by a racy core of red and dark currants, florals, spices and minerals that are all build up to the polished finish. This is a gorgeous release from the Zakin’s and winemaker Philippe Melka, that shows plenty of appeal in its youth, however it should ultimately go on to be a wine that becomes even more compelling over time.
