The 2017 Matthew’s Block Cabernet Sauvignon is a drop-dead stunning wine in this vintage. Displaying an impressive dark and brooding appearance, this Cabernet opens to incredible aromas of blackcurrants, dark cherries and cassis which are laced with loam, dark cocoa, espresso, sage, violets and hints of scorched earth that all explode from the glass. On the palate this is simply gorgeous, offering a full-bodied texture with beautiful round, polished tannins that are well-integrated and provide excellent structure. It shows outstanding concentration, focus and depth, as flavors of dark fruits, mocha and loamy characteristics continue to build through the long finish. Melanson Vineyard sits amongst some of Napa’s most iconic names on Pritchard Hill, however this remains one of Napa’s best kept secrets. Year-after-year is an impeccably made wine that is nothing short of thoroughly impressive and is a total success in this vintage.
