I adore Syrahs from The Rocks, and Matt Reynvaan continues to knock it out of the park with his magic touch in creating some of the best (if not the best) wines of Washington State. Starting off a bit reductive in the glass, this eye-popping, deep-ruby wine presents aromas of black plum, dried violet, mocha, crushed stone, dried wild sage and crushed black olive. A combination of 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier which gives it some nice lift on the nose. Ample acidity, sweet integrated tannins, and impeccable balance on the palate, it’s a wine that needs plenty of air to express itself. Allow it to open up over 2-3 hours while taking a quick sip every 30 minutes to experience how it changes over time. The finish goes on and on while the palate brings fun characteristics of bacon fat and just a hint of grapefruit pith. It’s ready to drink now but should cellar well for another 10-15 years.
