The 2019 Beckstoffer To Kalon ‘O.G.’ Cabernet Sauvignon is another mind bending wine from Carter Cellars in this vintage. This comes from Carter’s original block in Beckstoffer To Kalon, planted to clone 337, and it is one of the most sought after wines from the portfolio. It begins with absolutely mesmerizing aromas of fresh blackcurrants, blackberries and ripe cassis which are laced with wet gravel, fresh florals, graphite and sweet toasted spices all coming together in the glass. On the palate this displays a remarkable combination of power and finesse, along with wonderful full-bodied richness, yet a weightless mouthfeel. This possesses a striking sense of purity and freshness, as it continues to deliver incredibly complex characteristics through the long, luxurious finish. As is the case with just about all of Carter’s 2019’s this is utterly brilliant, but it also possesses special quality that separates it from the rest, which is impossible to describe in words, but you just know it as soon as you taste the wine. Anyone lucky enough to have purchased this will have a perfect bottle of Cabernet to look forward to drinking over the next three decades.
