The 2018 'El Camino' Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is nothing short of spectacular. It begins to impress with wonderful perfumed aromatics of ripe blackcurrants and black cherries, which are woven together with spices, fresh sage, fresh cut violets, dried loam and espresso nuances that all come together and emerge from the glass. On the palate this possesses a gorgeous rich texture with excellent depth and concentration. It goes on to display wonderful overall structure and balance, as layers of beautifully ripe dark fruits are underlined by lovely minerality leading up to the long, resonating finish. The 'El Camino' checks all the boxes and has now reached perfection in consecutive vintages. This will require some patience, but nonetheless it is a simply remarkable bottle of Cabernet that should go on to offer decades of drinking enjoyment.
