C.L. BUTAUD Tempranillo, High Plains AVA ‘Farmhouse Vineyard’ 2020

Aged for 23 months in a combination of new and once-used French oak barrels, the 2020 C.L. Butaud Tempranillo sports a deep ruby-purple core with a light pink rim. As I don’t have any experience with Texan wines, I would never call this a Tempranillo in a blind. But it is a very well-made and delicious wine. Spiced red and blue plum, candied cherry, powdered graphite, cedary herbs, grated chocolate, and dried herbs present themselves nicely on the palate. It has wonderful acidity, crunchy tannins, and a lovely fruit-forward and earthy finish. Just 250 cases produced.
