GRAMERCY CELLARS Syrah 'John Lewis Reserve' 2013

One of the finest Washington Syrahs that I have sampled this year, the 2013 'John Lewis Reserve' Syrah by Gramercy is a heavyhitter of a wine. This Syrah opens with aromatics reminiscent of white pepper, anise, wild blackberry and green bell pepper. There are flavors of creosote, blackberry pie, black olive, pipe tobacco, spice cake and sandalwood and wet gravel that mingle with brisk minerality. The smoothness mid-palate and structure are absolutely gorgeous. Seamless and precise, this 'wow factor' Syrah is one for the cellar. Try to hold off drinking this beauty for one more year. (Best 2017-2028) - April, 2016 (OB)
