ALHEIT VINEYARDS Chenin Blanc 'Magnetic North Mountain Makstok' 2015

The 2015 'Magnetic North' Chenin Blanc is another completely compelling wine from Chris and Suzaan Alheit in this vintage. Magnetic North is a single origin wine made from a special plot of ungrafted Chenin planted on very red, iron rich soils and growing in the Skurfberg/Citrusdal Mountain part of the Olifants Rivier at 520 meters above sea-level. This terroir driven wine slowly opens to aromas of stone fruits, honeysuckle, fresh tarragon and dusty minerals which all take shape beautifully in the glass. On the palate this displays incredible balance and focus with a striking texture that carries on through the finish making this impossible to resist. While this is showing incredibly well today, I expect it to continue to become even more compelling over the next few years. (Best 2016-2026) - November, 2016 (JD)
