The 2014 'La Reserve' Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a simply striking effort in this vintage from winemaker Bruno Gaspard. This is composed of 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvèdre, sourced from estate lieu-dits 'La Guigasse' and 'Pignan', which consist of mostly sandy soils, and contribute to its impressive silky, elegant profile. As this begins to opens it releases incredibly perfumed aromas of black cherries and raspberry cordial along with wet stones, sweet spices and hints of wild herbs. On the palate this possesses remarkable balance and elegance with a gorgeous silky, refined texture and concentrated flavors of with kitsch liquor, raspberries, wet stones and graphite at its core. Everything comes together beautifully on the exceedingly long finish where the complex flavors and silky quality of this wine continues to shine. Overall, this is one of the highlights from the vintage and should age gracefully for many years to come. (Best 2020-2034) - December, 2016 (JD)
