OPUS ONE Proprietary Red, Napa Valley 2014

The 2014 Opus One is another monumental wine from this historic Napa Valley estate. This stunning red is a fantastic blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot and 2% Malbec, which spent 18 months in new French oak prior to bottling. The result is a wine with remarkable purity, releasing seductive aromas of black fuits, crème de cassis, mocha, tar and spring florals underlined with a well-integrated herbal quality, all coming together to form the absolutely intoxicating bouquet. Beautifully concentrated with remarkable depth, this showcases an impressive range of complex flavors of dark fruits, crème de cassis, roasted coffee and dark chocolate shavings, which all build on the palate. The balance, structure and textural richness take this wine to another level, making it one of the most impressive wines from the vintage. Overall, this is another utterly compelling wine from winemaker Michael Silacci and his team at Opus One, which should continue to impress for decades. (Best 2019-2038) - August, 2017 (OB)
