The 2013 Gravelly Meadow Cabernet Sauvignon is another simply outstanding release from Diamond Creek in this vintage. Sourced from the low yeilding, five-acre vineyard which was originally a pre-historic river bed that consists of stony, gravelly soils which drain rapidly, forcing the vines struggle for moisture. The wine itself is absolutely stunning from the instant the cork is pulled, as it bursts open with gorgeous aromatics of fresh ripe blackberries and cassis, which are joined by spring florals, graphite and earthy nuances all taking shape magnificently in the glass. This full-bodied, velvety Cabernet continues to impress on the the palate, as it displays remarkable overall balance, precision and finesse, delivering layers of ripe dark fruits, laced with striking minerality which expands beautifully through the long finish. Anthough this is already quite fascinating, I expect it will only become more impressive as it evolves geacefully in the cellar. (Best 2021-2037) - October, 2017 (JD)
