BROADBENT Port, Vintage 2015

The 2015 Vintage Port is a superb showing from winemaker Dirk Niepoort, which is primarily composed of Touriga Franca, Tinta Amarela, Tinto Cão, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Sousão, Touriga Nacional. Grapes were foot-trodden in granite lagares and the wine was vinified with 100% of the stems. Soon after harvest, the wines were racked, and aged in old wooden vats in the Douro over the winter, then moved to Vila Nova de Gaia in April, 2016 where the final blend then matured further in wooden vats. This wine itself is rich, decadent and simply delicious, as it opens to seductive aromas of blackberry reduction, raisin, chocolate shavings, pepper and hints of spicy nuances all taking shape. On the palate this is dense, concentrated and mouth coating with a fabulous voluptuous texture that is impossible to resist. This continues to impress as it delivers layers of sweetly ripened dark fruits and chocolate flavors which cascade onto the long, unctuous finish. This is already extremely expressive and approachable for such a young port, nevertheless expect many years of evolution for this tremendous effort. (Best 2019-2038) - November, 2017 (JD)
