The 2013 Primer Paso is a wonderful blend of 60% Syrah, 36% Petite Sirah and 4% Malvasia Bianca from Cochise County in Southeastern Arizona. This red possesses beautiful complex aromatics, with characteristics of blackberries, ripe plums, dried spices, smoked meats, black tea, white pepper, violet and wild herbs, which all come together beautifully in the glass. On the palate this is full-bodied and beautifully structured with firm, chewy tannins and superb overall balance and finesse. The finish is long, with layers of black fruits, dark chocolate and exotic spices. Overall, this is a simply delicious wine, and while it may be hard to resist today, it certainly has the potential to age and become even more compelling over time.
