The 2013 Uccelliera Brunello di Montalcino is a sensational showing from Andrea Cortonesi. This is already showing remarkably well, as it opens to gorgeous aromatics of dried cherries and plums, which are woven together with licorice, spices, cedar, leather and florals all adding wonderful complexity. On the palate this is medium-bodied and refined, with excellent overall balance and finesse. The silky, well-polished tannins make for a seamless transition into the finish, before they grip a firm hold and leave behind traces of ripe fruits and spices lingering on. This outstanding Brunello is already drinking absolutely beautifully right now, and should offer at least another decade.
