Bodegas Caro is a joint venture between Domaine Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) and Nicolas Catena. The 2013 'Caro' is considered the flagship wine and consists of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. This displays a menacing pitch dark color, followed by aromas of fresh blackberries and dark currants woven together with exotic spices, violets, coffee grounds, cocoa, loam along with hints of tobacco leaf and herbs all coming together and soaring from the glass. On the palate this is full-bodied, with round polished tannins and an opulent mouthfeel. Shows remarkable balance and poise given the density of the wine. It continues to show wonderful concentration all the way through the long supple finish. This is excellent today, but I expect it to develop in bottle and be at it best after some short to mid-term aging. (Best 2018-2028) - September, 2016 (JD)
