ELDERTON Shiraz, Barossa Valley 'Command' 2014

The Command Shiraz is Estate grown on the Nuriootpa vineyard and sourced from a single block planted around 1894. The fruit was harvested by hand, with five small parcels harvested over five weeks, and then spent 30 months in new American and French oak puncheons. As for the wine itself, as it slowly begins to unwind in the glass it releases aromas of blackberries and dark bramble notes, which combine with exotic spices, pepper, smoke, forest floor and even some black tea nuances develop in the glass. On the palate this possesses a medium-plus body, and is nicely textured, displaying notable poise and balance. As this comes to an end flavors of bramble fruits pepper, spices and forest floor persist and linger nicely on the finish. Overall, the 2014 Command is a well made wine which should evolve nicely with time, however allowing that to happen will be essential.
