ELDERTON Shiraz, Barossa Valley 2014

The 2014 ‘Estate’ Shiraz from Elderton comes mainly from the Elderton Vineyard situated on the banks of the North Para River, Nuriootpa, Barossa Valley, South Australia. The Ashmead’s utilize fruit from three Elderton Estate Vineyards, (Nuriootpa, Greenock and Craneford) some as old as 100-years to create this Shiraz. This opens to a deep purple color, followed by profound aromas of boysenberries, blueberries and plums woven together with pepper, forest floor, dried floral and loamy notes all taking shape in this expressive red. On the palate this is full-bodied and well structured, as it is backed by lovely underlying acidity, which adds a gorgeous layer of freshness to the bold fruit, making for a wonderful long, supple finish. While this is delicious now, it should also continue to age nicely with some short-term cellaring. (Best 2017-2023) - May, 2017 (JD)
