The 2002 Vinothek Riesling is a completely captivating release from Nikolaihof. Vinothek is the flagship wine from the estate and it is aged in oak casts for at least 15-years before is it released, the 2002 spent 16-years. This beautifully elegant Riesling slowly begins to unwind and release its subtle complexities, lead by aromas of quince, honeycomb, jasmine, green tea, ginseng and wet stones that all develop in the glass. On the palate this displays remarkable balance, with vibrant acidity framing the intense minerality. It continues to impress with its outstanding precision and clarity, as it remains incredibly focused from start to finish. This mesmerizing Riesling is drinking impeccably well after nearly 2 decades, and it is clearly one of the finest examples of Riesling to be found.
