Spending 19 months in 40% new French oak barrels, it presents a wonderful deep purple core with a neon red rim and is one of my favorites of the Rhone varietal wines I tasted from Paul Lato. An intense nose of boysenberry, dried violet flower, spruce forest, vanilla bean, roasted meats, cedary herbs, and cracked black peppercorn notes flourish the senses. The palate brings scrumptious flavors of blackberry compote, toasted baking spice, and a meaty and spicy core. Rounded tannins, tingly acidity, and a full body lead to a fruity yet savory finish that goes on and on and on. Just five barrels produced. Highly recommended.
