The 2014 Clos Apalta is a wonderful showing in this vintage. The blend of 48% Carmenère, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon and 21% Merlot slowly unveils its stunning aromatics of ripe blackberries and cassis, that come together with exotic spices, tar, tobacco and fresh violets. On the palate this is full-bodied and well-structured with gorgeous polished tannins and a wonderful velvety mouthfeel. It goes on to displays remarkable depth and concentration with a ripe core layered with flavors of dark fruits, spices and tobacco that expand through the supple finish. While this is already a pleasure to taste at this early stage in its development, the 2014 has a bright future ahead and will certainly continue to evolve and drink beautifully for years to come.
