The ‘Copa Santa’ is composed of 83% Syrah, 17% Grenache and it is the deepest and most complex of the 2012’s from Domain Clavel. A little slow to open at first, but as soon as it does it bursts with dark raspberry and wild cherry, followed by spices, licorice, dark chocolate and fresh lavender. The richly textured palate is velvety and nicely layered with a wonderful inner sweetness. Well made with balance and finesse right into the long, mouth-coating, spicy finish. Still needs some time, but all the elements are there and this has nice potential. (Best 2016-2022) - February, 2014 (JD)
