Château La Croix is situated directly between Chateau Cos d’Estournel and Chateau Montrose in Saint-Estephe and although this is considered the second wine from Château La Crock, it receives all the same attention as the first wine. The 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot and 17% Cabernet Franc is sourced from vines averaging 37 years in age, which are planted to garonne gravel over typical Saint-Estèphe clay-limestone. The wine itself brings classic aromas of blackberry, spices, tar, licorice and crushed stones. It possesses a medium body that is softly textured, backed by fine, silky tannins that become chewy and grip hold on the finish. Overall, this is a fine showing from a top Château in Saint-Estephe and an excellent wine to drink upon release or cellar short term. (Best 2014-2019) - June, 2014 (JD)
