The 2012 Domaine du Grand Montmirail Gigondas 'Vieilles Vignes' is composed of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre which comes from vines averaging over 40-years-old. The wine itself offers aromas of black raspberry and sweet plum followed by lavender, graphite, white pepper and a black olive character. On the palate this is well balanced backed by a racy core of acidity that carries on through the finish. The 2012 Gidondas shows some nice appeal early on, but it will be best to allow this to further develop for a few more years. (Best 2016-2025) - April, 2015 (JD)
