The Château de Portets is an excellent showing in this vintage. It opens to inviting aromas of dark cherries and blackberries which are woven together with toast, pipe tobacco, wet gravel, Asian spices and a subtle hint of licorice all taking shape. Medium-bodied with a lovely texture and notable overall depth and focus. It remains beautifully structured and well-balanced through the finish, where traces of dark cherries and minerals accents continue to linger. This is offering plenty of early appeal, however should continue to evolve over the course of the next decade. (Best 2019-2028) - December, 2017 (JD)
