The 2012 Volnay comes from a mix of old vines (70-years-old) and youger vines (35-years-old) from the top part of the Clos des Chenes, in the middle of the lieu dit where the soils are composed of clay and limestone. As this wine begins to open in the glass it releases lovely aromas of fresh raspberries and cherries which come together with smoke, white pepper, floral, licorice, freshly picked mushroom and a lovely mineral character. The medium body is wrapped in fine, silky tannins with a nice touch of acidity thought the clean, sleek finish. Today this is a pleasure to drink, but should also evolve nicely with some time.
