The 2016 Clos St. Antonin Châteauneuf-du-Pape is made from 100% Grenache and aged in foudres or demi-muids for 12 months. It begins with gorgeous aromas of black raspberries and plums, which are woven together beautifully with lavender, spices, white pepper, wild herbs, wet stones and a touch of smoke. On the palate this possesses a medium-plus body with excellent concentrated and a wonderful velvety texture. It displays a fantastic overall balance of ripe fruit and acidity, with striking purity through the long, mouthwatering finish. Classy and sophisticated, this is an absolutely stunning wine in its youth, but will also go on to age remarkable well. This has so much potential, I can’t wait to see this with some bottle age.
