The 2016 'Cuvée Réservée' Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a sensational showing from this legendary estate. Composed of 80% Grenache, 6% Syrah, 4% Mourvèdre and 10% other authorized varietals including Counoise, Cinsault, Vaccarèse which have been sourced from vines averaging 60+ years in age. This immediately impresses with its complex aromas of ripe blackberries, dark cherries and dark plums which are woven together with violets, black olives, herbs and hints of damp earth all taking shape. On the palate this possesses a full body with wonderful textural richness. Showing tremendous depth and concentration this continues to impress all the way through the long, supple finish. This is a simply stunning wine with loads of potential to become even more compelling with time. Although this displays plenty of appealing characteristics now, readers should plan on allowing this some additional bottle age as it will certainly go on to age gracefully for many years to come.
