The Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Vieilles Vignes' is a blend of Grenache 70-75% with equal parts Syrah and Mourvèdre from 75-100 year old vines. It offers beautiful aromas of ripe red and black berries, dark currant, leather, vanilla, licorice and dark chocolate. On the palate this shows outstanding texture and balance with a medium plus body and delicious, chewy tannins that run into the long finish. Excellent today, but ultimately needs some cellar time. Drink over the next 12-15 years.
