This 2001 Château Rayas 'Pignan Reserve' Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a completely compelling wine that is drinking absolutely amazing at this stage. The intoxicating aromas immediately begin to seduce you from the second the cork is pulled, with incredible aromas of roasted plums and dried berries, which are woven together with smoke, savory herbs, sopressata and leather that are just about impossible to resist. The wine continues to impress with its totally seamless texture that should be described as nothing less than sheer silk as it all comes together in perfect harmony on the finish.
