The 2014 Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Domaine de Père Caboche is a lovely showing in this vintage. This blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre is sourced from their vineyards located on the famous plateau of ‘la Crau’. As this begins opens is instantly releases inviting aromas of cherries and plums woven together with spices, pepper, licorice, floral and a savory character, all coming together in the glass. On the palate this offers a gorgeous medium body with a soft, elegant texture and wonderful balance leading into the spice-tinged finish. While quite accessible now, this should continue to drink well over the next decade. (Best 2017-2026) - December, 2016 (JD)
