The 2014 'Le Bernardine' Châteauneuf-du-Pape opens with inviting aromas of roasted plums and raspberries woven together with meat, pepper, spices, leather and hints of grilled herbs all coming together in the glass. On the palate this is round and velvety with notable balance and focus. While already appealing, Chapoutier's wines have a track record for ageing well, and I expect this to show even better as it softens with some additional bottle age.
