HERRI MINA Irouleguy Rouge 2011

Jean-Claude Berrouet, who spent three decades of his career making the great wines of Château Petrus has been making some amazing wines under the label Herri Mina from his native home of Irouléguy in the Basque country. The 2011 Herri Mina Rouge is composed of 100% Cabernet Franc which was fermented in stainless steel and aged in old barriques, 10% new oak. The wine releases fantastic aromas of blackberries and tobacco, followed by smoke, pepper and a touch of dried sage. On the palate this is medium to full-bodied with wonderful tension and structure backed by firm tannins and excellent length. This is already showing some wonderful characteristics and should be even better after some short-term cellaring. (Best 2016-2026) - April, 2015 (JD)
