The 2013 Viré-Clessé ‘Vieilles Vignes’ from Christophe Cordier is a beautiful showing. It comes from 50-year-old vines planted in clay and limestone soils in the Northern Mâconnais. Readers familiar with Pouilly-Fuisé will find many similarities, as this opens with beautiful aromas of lemon and citrus fruits followed by flinty minerals, smoke and white floral notes. On the palate this displays remarkable balance and focus, driven by gorgeous acidity thats carries through until the very end. Drinking exceptionally well now, but should also continue to evolve.
